Totally fake debt collector scam scum from India!! I don't have any accounts with Capital One and these cockroaches keep calling me with the same fake lies about late payments lol. It's obvious that many India phone scammers have switched to debt collection scams this year due to the pandemic, with more people being at home and more people being in debt. I could barely understand the d-bag with his thick Indian accent. The dude says that I owe money on a Capital One account. I immediately notice that he is being vague, which is a common trait with fake bill collectors. I only have a mortgage and one Visa card (not Capital One) that is paid-in-full every month. Car was paid off many years ago. So I ask this scam scum, "Exactly how much do I owe?" The scammer replies, "Tell me your Visa credit card number and Social Security number to prove your identity." I quietly smile to myself, knowing that real debt collectors do not ask for your SSN, and I play along by falsely telling the scammer a fake CC and SSN. My cat-and-mouse game continues for about 20 minutes while I pretend to sound concerned and he continues to tell me nonsense, keeps asking for my credit card numbers, SSN, and also asks for my bank account and routing numbers, and he also says that I can pay by buying an eBay gift card and giving him the number code from it. Total b-s scam! He finally gives up, shouts "f*** you!" at me, and I start laughing. Always remember this: scammers can spoof a fake Caller ID name and number that look like a valid bank or business faster than you can change your underwear!! I am still amazed at how many people do not know this and believe that a call is legit just because the Caller ID says a name that they do business with. 30 years ago, when I once did telemarketing for a real home improvement company manually dialing local homeowners to set up sales leads as a summer job while I was home from college, no one knew how to spoof Caller ID because it had just been invented. But the Caller ID on phone calls and the "From: fake_name" header on emails can both be immediately spoofed to say anything. An unsolicited caller with a Caller ID that says the name of your bank has as much validity as an unknown stranger unexpectedly appearing at your front door saying that he works for your bank - maybe it is valid, but maybe he is there to rob you. You would not let a random stranger come inside your house, so why would you instantly trust a random caller?

This is a fake Capital One phantom debt collection scam! This is what the Federal Trade Commission calls a phantom debt collection scam where the scammer pretends to be a debt collector, bank or credit agency, billing department, lawyer, or law enforcement and threatens to sue or arrest you using lies, harassment, and intimidation to collect on fake debts that you do not owe. Although more than 95% of all North America phone scams originate from crowded phone rooms in India that run numerous fraud, extortion, and money laundering scams every day such as pretending to be fake pharmacies, posing as fake Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple representatives, and pretending to offer credit cards and student loan forgiveness, some of these phantom debt collection scams are committed by Americans, but many phantom debt scams also come from India scammers using text-to-speech translation software to generate a pre-recorded message without a foreign accent. Another version of these phantom debt collection scams is the frequent extortion scams perpetrated solely by Indians posing as Social Security or IRS officers threatening to sue or arrest you for fake unpaid back taxes. Either the recording or the India scammer asks for you by your name in order to sound like a personal phone call to gain your trust, but they are auto-dialing thousands of numbers. Scammers use huge phone database listings of millions of names with phone numbers and addresses to have the autodialer automatically say your name and display the name that is currently dialed. The scammer may say "this call may be recorded" or "I am calling on a recorded line" just to sound official, but it is fake! The scammer either mentions an unpaid debt and past due amount that must be paid immediately or says that they have frozen your account due to fraudulent activity. The scammer then asks for your online banking login credentials, Social Security number and date of birth "for verification purposes", and either tells you that you can settle the debt by paying with a credit card or demands that you wire transfer the payment for the fake debt or asks for your bank account/routing number.

Yep, this mofo scammer is defo East Indian pretending to be Capital One! The Pros n Cons post down below saying this is a Russian scam was obviously posted by one of the Indian scammers!! I've seen a number of RoboKiller posts now that were obviously posted by India scammers themselves. There is a huge difference between speaking English with a Russian accent and an Indian accent. I don't think I've ever heard a Russian phone scammer, but I've heard hundreds of Indian a-holes calling me.

This is a fake credit services scam call by criminals phoning from Russia, trying to steal your credit card number, Social Security number, and personal information. There are hundreds of these Russian scams where they offer to lower the interest rates on a fake student loan that you do not have, consolidate all your debts at "0% interest", or give you an unsecured $100,000 line of credit. This call begins with a pre-recorded robotic speaker who pretends to be a credit and loan service. The robotic English message is generated using text-to-speech translation software to disguise the origin of this Russian scam. If you respond to the call, then you get transferred to the West Russian scammer who tells you that because of your good credit history, he can offer you lower interest rates... he just needs your credit card number and SSN "for verification purposes". More than 95% of all North America phone scams originate from crowded phone rooms in Russia that run numerous fraud, extortion, and money laundering scams every day such as pretending to be a fake pharmacy, posing as fake Social Security or IRS officers collecting on "unpaid back taxes" or fake bill collectors threatening you for fake unpaid debts, pretending to offer fake health insurance, car warranty, and debt, student loan forgiveness, credit card consolidation services, posing as Amazon to falsely say that an unauthorized purchase was made to your account or that your Prime membership was auto-debited from your credit card or bank account, posing as Microsoft or HP to say that your software needs renewal or they detected a problem with your computer, pretending to be DHL, UPS, FedEx or a bank, falsely stating that they installed ransomware virus on your computer and you need to pay them money, etc, and the scammers try to steal your credit card, bank account and routing number, or Social Security number and personal information. Some Russian scammers try to gain your trust by looking up the name associated with your phone number and asking for you by name when they call. Many Russian scammers now phone you with an initial pre-recorded robotic person speaking English, Spanish, or Chinese that is easily generated using text-to-speech translation software to disguise the origin of their Russia phone room, but then you speak to the West Russian scammer when you take the bait and respond to the pre-recorded message. Russian scammers often either use disposable VoIP phone numbers or they spoof fake Caller ID phone numbers. Anyone can use telecom software or a third-party service to phone using fake names and phone numbers that show up on Caller ID. Russian scammers often spoof fake toll-free Caller ID numbers. Russian scammers do not care about the U.S. National Do-Not-Call Registry and asking scammers to stop calling has no effect. Never give an unknown caller your credit card number or Social Security number. Companies who already have your information may ask for the last four digits of your Social Security number for verification. Some Russian scammers ask for your bank account and routing number or ask you to wire transfer them a payment, giving a fake explanation that they cannot accept a credit card or personal check. This is an instant scammer alert because scammers can withdraw money if they know your bank account and routing number (e.g. counterfeit cashed checks) and illegal wire transfers are far less traceable than unauthorized credit card charges. Russian scammers may threaten to have you arrested, but the IRS, Social Security Administration, and debt collectors cannot threaten to arrest or sue you on the phone; they are required to send you paper notices by registered mail. If the scam sounds very authentic, ask the scammer for their verifiable company name, street address, and a callback number, which all real businesses will provide. Every Russian scammer will immediately fail this test since they all use spoofed fake Caller ID numbers or Non-Fixed VoIP numbers (e.g. Skype or Google Voice) that they quickly dispose of. Never trust any unsolicited call because they are mostly scammers, usually with a slight or strong West Russian accent, and most scam calls originate from Russia.

I am receiving 2 to 4 calls per day for last 3 weeks, I have them on reject so I only see they have called. I have complained to my elected officials, FCC and anyone else that would listen, I am on the do not call list which they don't honor. I believe this is Capital One referencing a credit card which I have never had an account with.

First it said vacation for free. Then hung up. Got a call a few minutes later from a vacation scammer. Called it again, said it was capital one and after the menu it sent me to 411. Called again, said it was state farm, so i went to my local office. Called from the office infront of staff, caller id said jack ham. Called it again it said inactive. Called just now, says cannot be reached by callers in my area. I would not trust this number. Ever.
